Umm more fabric

I receive emails from Gorgeous Fabrics about their sales and there have been a couple of pieces of fabric that I have had my eye on. So when Ann announced her 24% off birthday sale, these two pieces migrated from My Wish List to the Shopping Bag!!

The first piece is "grrr baby! lining" and it will be used for a jacket at some point, just haven't picked the pattern yet.

The second piece is "designer raincoating - chocolate brown". Now I haven't been able to find any sort of raincoating here in Australia and have been wanting to make a new trench coat (my current trench was purchased in Melbourne in 1985, it is a cream colour and still going strong but hey isn't this what sewers do LOL).

I would really like to have this ready for the trip to Puyallup next year where Velosewer, Alison and I are planning to attend the Sewing & Stitchery Expo as reading the attendees comments on PR it can be wet.

I received Threads May 2010 Number 148 the other week and it has a wonderful article titled "Sew Fashionable Rainwear" which I am keeping my fingers crossed will assist me in making a "chic and functional wet-weather" trench coat.

Hi Sharon, I love the "grr baby" fabric it is sensational. I have an article from a Vogue magazine on sewing rainwear which I will send to you. I hope you find time to sew over the Easter break. You are inspiring me.

Sharon, does this mean Ann is now willing to charge postage at cost plus a handling fee? Previously she only posted using the large $35 flat box which was too large for me. I'd like to buy from her but I usually only buy a couple of yards at a time.

Yeah, I wanna know about the shipping too. I recently put 2 panels of a wonderful turquoise knit in my cart & the shipping was going to be $48. I know she refunds if it's less but I'm not gonna take that chance yet.

Hi Belinda and Alison,

My initial order had a postage cost of US48.50 which was nearly as much as the fabric LOL. Ann sent me an email shortly after the order was placed to say that she would be sending by UPS and would refund the excess to my paypal account. I received a refund of US24.17 and the package arrived very well wrapped and in excellent condition.

I hope this helps.

I had the same good experience with http://www.dotsnstripes.co.uk/. I bought two pieces last year and she refunded part of the postage once she knew what the real cost would be.
BTW I've also been checking our rainwear fabric on emmaonesock.com...

This trench will be perfect! I've been eying off that lining for a while myself.

Thanks Sharon for the details, I think. :) Could be dangerous to my credit card.

I have been eyeing that brown raincoating as well. If only I didn't have black burberry fabric and green gortex already waiting my attention....., I should sew down my stash.
